On the 1st of July Year 8 pupils had an interesting and informative morning with a Careers Carousel.
Careers Carousel matches school students with a group of adults from different industries to enable students to hear about different peoples’ working lives. The employers facilitated and lead short discussions sharing experiences of their career path and information on the specific skills and qualities needed for certain jobs. Every 10 minutes students moved around the carousel, meeting a new set of employers and by the end of the morning they had learnt about 24 new career options.
Careers Carousel is an important event giving students the knowledge to make informed decisions about their future learning and work options. Teachers said it was a really good career opportunity and that students engaged well with the employers for the whole morning. The Careers Carousel comes at a key time when the Year 8s are thinking of what subject options to choose moving in to Year 9. Jamie in 8L had these words to say:
“In the Careers Carousel we discovered new job opportunities where workers came to explain their profession and how they got to where they are now. I thought it was inspiring and helpful not just for me but for everyone else aswell.”
