We are incredibly proud of the A Level results achieved this year by our Key Stage 5 students, who have shown exceptional resilience and dedication over the course of their studies. They absolutely rose to the challenge of their exams – marked to those of the same standard as those of 2019, but in the context of pandemic disrupted A Level and GCSE study and without the opportunity to sit examinations two years ago.
For students based at William Ellis, 57% of A Level grades were A*-C and 13% A*-A. Of Level 3 vocational students on Applied Science and Business Studies courses, a third received a Double Distinction grade and 77% a Double Merit grade or higher.
We are particularly pleased with results in some subjects, including Physics where 50% of students secured an A*-A grade and Film Studies and German this was also over a third. In seven subjects, over two thirds of grades awarded were A*-C.
For students, the grades provide a currency and stepping stone for future study and success. Over 80% students secured their chosen university places automatically because of their awarded grades and others have secured places through the clearing process as the day has progressed.
We have some particular achievements that we would like to celebrate and share:
Three of these students overcame significant and exceptional personal challenges during their time with us.
Some of our students who have excelled in the creative arts are going to specialist, high quality destinations:
