Religious Education

The main aims of our department are to:

  • Give children and young people the opportunity to:

1. Learn about religion and worldviews.

2. Express and communicate ideas about religion and worldviews.

3. Gain and deploy skills needed for the study of religion and worldviews.

  • Provide an opportunity for children and young people to understand each other’s beliefs, practices and ways of life.
  • Make a valuable contribution to the personal development of children and young people, particularly their spiritual, moral, social, cultural and intellectual development.
  • Enhance the growth of every child and young people, regardless of whether they come from a religious family background or not.
  • Contribute to the development and demonstration of pupils’ skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.

  • What does it mean to be a Humanist in the 21st century?

Year 8

  • How does the media treat religion?
  • Does religion help people to be good?
  • Is death the end?

Year 9

  • Why is there suffering?
  • Christianity in 5 arguments part 1
  • Christianity in 5 arguments part 2

 

If students do not opt for GCSE RE, the expected curriculum expectations are met through the PSHE and tutorial programme.
